Design or art hero: “Within the design/art world, Martino Gamper’s 100 Chairs in 100 Days and Enzo Mari’s Autoprogettazione series are both very inspiring. Although I didn’t know of either of these series until after I started doing my 2x4 Chair collection (pictured), I can see correlations: All of our series involve furniture. Gamper used a time restraint (100 days) and I use a material restraint (one 8 ft. 2x4 = one chair). Mari used mass-produced dimensional lumber and I use the classic construction 2x4. Plus, the use of restraint and simplicity to heighten creativity.”
