“When a weaving is an object it becomes something you want to handle and touch, and that can be a really interesting aspect of the work,” says Matson, who is working on her second solo exhibition at Alderman Exhibitions in Winter 2014. “But what’s lost through the objectness is sometimes the ability to focus on the image or the picture plane, much like in the way that you wouldn’t handle a painting; you would stand and look at it.”
