Win These $844 Calder-Inspired Earrings By Bario Neal

We didn’t know why we were so drawn to Anna Bario and Page Neal’s new jewelry collection when we first saw it earlier this month, but we probably should have guessed: It marked the first time the Philadelphia duo explicitly drew upon their design influences during their creation process, transforming details from sources like architecture books and Italian vacation photos into a library of geometric shapes, then collaging those shapes into rings, necklaces, and earrings. It also marked the first time that they’d taken their line, Bario Neal, exclusively in the direction of fine jewelry, eliminating everything else in their catalog — hence the new approach. “Our boutique jewelry was always playful and experimental, but you can’t always do playful and experimental when you’re selling engagement rings,” says Neal. “We wanted the new collection to bridge those two worlds.”

For their Ray and Sol pieces, for example — the scalloped necklaces and earrings shown in the photo below — they traced the borders of ceiling fans and porch ornaments from the book Caribbean Style, then cut the shapes out in metal and played with different configurations. “It was a fun process — it felt like detective work,” says Neal. The sinuous curves of Calder mobiles became the softened zig-zags of the duo’s 14K gold Circ Hoops, pictured at the top of this post. You can enter to win a pair of Circ Hoops (value $844) by entering the giveaway below, then scroll down to check out the rest of their Fall 2016 collection, as well as a few of its key inspiration images.
