A New Nashville Concept Shop With Rotating Curatorial Themes

If you walked into the new Wilder Etudes store in Nashville, you might not notice anything out of the ordinary; it has its own vibe, of course, but otherwise appears no different than the kind of small, directional boutique you might find in Brooklyn or L.A. Yet everything stocked at Wilder Etudes — a sister store to Wilder, opened 3 years ago by Ivy Elrod and her husband Josh — adheres to a theme that will change every three months, and the connections aren’t always obvious. For the first, GREEN, there are custom green versions of Alex Drew & No One tables, Sarah Cihat plates, Huldra pillows, and David Gibson tumblers, but there are also perfumes with green fragrance notes, and albums whose songs have green in the title. “Green is a word that has visual, aural, textural, and conceptual implications,” says Ivy. “We like to play with as many senses simultaneously as possible.” The pair chose green partly for that reason, partly because of their interest in sustainability, and partly because green was this year’s Pantone color of the year; for holiday, the shop’s theme will change to “Presence/Presents,” which according to Ivy will explore themes of being present, being seen, and — of course — giving presents.
