Based in Edmonton, Canada, Concrete Cat was founded a decade ago as a construction company intended to help owner Matt Heide pay for college, then evolved into a design studio employing four artisans tasked with transforming concrete into everything from public art installations to aesthetic objects. The latter pursuit has yielded vases, planters, and bookends that juxtapose, says Heide, “a refined aesthetic and flamboyant use of color with the inherent industrial and rugged characteristics of concrete.”
