Meet the Florist Behind Instagram’s Dreamiest Still Lifes

Doan Ly's floral still life photographs could, in a way, be read as contemporary vanitas paintings — compositions of hyper-saturated bouquets, exotic fruits, and colored lights whose addictive, saccharine appeal might symbolize the fleetingness of beauty, and of Instagram culture itself. Yet we prefer to look at it like Ly does: The world is a shitty, shitty place right now, so let's all just take a sec to enjoy some insanely pretty flowers.

A Furniture Collection in London Made From 3D Printing’s Leftovers

Years ago, when London-based designers Seongil Choi and Fabio Hendry met as students at the Royal College of Art, they were asked to make a stool — which, at the time, they had very little interest in doing. Yet by channeling their common backgrounds in industrial design and their interest in finding uses for low-value, abundant resources, they inadvertently developed an innovative process — called Hot Wire Extensions — by which they have now made many, many a stool, and so much more.

Meet Agnes, the Next Big Thing from Central America

Imagine taking a landscape and a civilization and devising an alternative evolutionary path for it — and then creating a collection of furniture based upon that surrogate world. In a nutshell, that's how Guatemala City–based studio Agnes created their newest collection. Designers Estefanía de Ros and Gustavo Quintana spent two years researching pre-Columbian craftsmanship to create the kind of aesthetic that might have emerged had Mayan culture evolved with a bit less Western interference.

The Antwerp-Based Artist Making Sculptures in an Abandoned Ceramics Factory

Ceramic artist Harvey Bouterse had never touched a lump of clay before he walked through the doors of the Antwerp-based porcelain company, Perignem, eight years ago. “I had been collecting their pieces for a number of years,” the Surinam-born, Dutch-trained designer explains, “and wanted to have a piece signed, so I looked up their office and stopped by.” What he found was a ceramics factory — almost entirely out of use — with an atelier and workshop stocked to the brim with glazes and clay dating back to the 1950s. He's been working there ever since.

VIDIVIXI Have Us Wondering: Is Everyone Cool Moving to Mexico City?

We met Mark briefly during his time in New York, but based on the sophistication of the new collection VIDIVIXI debuted this week, we're now dying to get to know him a bit better.
