For her first design for Sight Unseen, ceramicist Jessica Hans started with the charmingly lumpy porcelain vase shape she’s best known for, its textural contours a result of her unique hand-forming process. She then used a wax resist method to add a pattern that’s loosely inspired by Keith Haring drawings — the black background is a soft, matte glaze while the white marks are actually patches of the unglazed porcelain body showing through. Since all of Hans’s pieces are made by hand in her Philadelphia studio, no two vases are exactly alike.
