–ABC Necklace

The entire Roman alphabet, hand-carved into sections of beechwood dowel, hangs from the London duo’s ABC Necklace, which can also be hung on the wall as a decorative garland when it’s not being worn. It’s part of an ongoing study by the designers into the dynamics of type, and how they can produce a legible alphabet while working under a self-imposed system of constraints — in this case, cutting every letter from a 3/4-inch dowel without disturbing the top left corner, where it attaches to the chain. “It’s a puzzle we set ourselves,” they say.
