–Layer Cake Necklace

Based on their popular Cold Cuts coasters — created for Sight Unseen’s 2011 Noho Design District pop-up shop — Chen and Kai’s Layer Cake necklace is made from scraps of material from around their studio, soaked in urethane and wrapped around a wooden core. The resulting log is sliced on a chop saw, coated with fiberglass epoxy, sanded, waxed, and hung as a pendant from two pieces of neon rope. Note that each necklace is one of a kind, so shape and composition varies from piece to piece, as pictured. No two necklaces are alike.
