Philippe Malouin

–Yachiyo Necklace

London designer Philippe Malouin used the same painstaking process to make his Yachiyo necklace as he did to make his rug of the same name, which debuted at the 2011 Milan Furniture Fair. He and an army of assistants bend galvanized steel wire — normally used to make animal-pen fencing on farms — into small hand-cut rings and, one by one, link them together using an ancient Japanese chain-mail pattern. The resulting necklace is flexible and wearable, yet virtually indestructible.
