Study O Portable

Bernadette Deddens studied product design at the RCA, while Tetsuo Mukai trained in fashion. But if there’s one thing the husband-and-wife duo known as Study O Portable agree on, it’s that the objects they hand-craft together out of their London studio should require only the simplest properties to function well: scarves, vessels, mirrors. That leaves them free to focus on novel techniques and aesthetics, as with their Fuzz containers for Phillips de Pury, which are built up in layers of ceramic resin around a polystyrene core. Study O Portable’s name reflects the pair’s love for designs that can be carried out of the house easily, which originally sparked their burgeoning jewelry practice. Their ABC Necklace was developed just for Sight Unseen.
