The Beautifully Bizarre Franken-Candles of Dutch Artist Helmut Smits

Helmut Smits is a Rotterdam-based artist who works in the vein of designers like Dominic Wilcox or Sebastian Errazuriz — his portfolio is bursting at the seams with quick creative experiments, the product of a hyperactive mind with a healthy sense of humor. Among them: Everything from a visual catalog of autumn leaves caught by the artist before they hit the ground, to a series of lamps made from cheap ceiling caps, to a series of photos of various balls balanced on various everyday objects. Some of the projects are silly, some are conceptual, and others are just plain visually lovely, like the one below featuring candles of all shapes and sizes melted together into color-blocked totems.
