Of the final outfits, Jongenelis says: “We tried to keep in mind who the outfit was for — say, if it was for a slim guy who likes long jackets with many buttons. But sometimes we left it to the tailor, which is why some of the clothes have this sort of old-fashioned 1950s style. We worked mainly in the poorer areas of Beijing where they are not at all into fashion.”
