Last year, she saw an inspiring show at the Paula Cooper Gallery of Alan Shields’ work from the seventies. “He feels like a painter, he worked with canvas, but he just kind of exploded it.” She’s also drawn to the forms and color of the woven works of Sheila Hicks. Another influence: “This is really weird but there’s a gigantic Goodwill here and I love going in there and looking around at all the stuff people don’t want anymore, the mishmash of it, it feels like a giant collage.”
