Audo, Our Go-To for Cozy Danish Furniture, Just Dropped a Whole Slate of Products Perfect for Small-Space Living
By now, we’ve established that Copenhagen’s 3 Days of Design is a staple on the annual design-fair circuit, particularly as many Danish brands forgo Milan in favor of their own city, where their work can be exhibited both in context and in a more sustainable fashion. For Audo Copenhagen, this summer’s 3 Days offered the opportunity to celebrate the brand’s Nordic roots — and newly released products — at the revitalized Audo House in the Nordhavn district. Launched in 2019 as a combination monobrand store, restaurant, and residence, Audo House got a glow-up this year in collaboration with Stockholm’s Note Design Studio to showcase updated favorites.
Perhaps it’s ironic that Audo’s refreshed collection launched in summer, as so many of Audo’s products are designed for maximum indoor coziness. As such, many of the products this season arrive in new, more petite sizes. “Nature in Northern Europe means that we spend a good deal of the year indoors during long winters, and when the sun comes out and summer arrives, windows and doors open wide so that interior and external spaces merge. A close connection to nature and time spent indoors has inspired Nordic designers and craftsmen for generations. The art of interior life, one might say, is a Nordic tradition,” the brand says. Among the new products, which launch worldwide this month, are a new version of Flemming Lassen’s 1935 winged Tired Man chair, now available in the lush alpaca-mohair blend Einar fabric by Kvadrat x Raf Simon. The minimal Androgyne table by Norwegian architect Danielle Siggerud, which deftly plays with negative space, arrives in a new lower, wider size, and the iconic pleated Dancing Pendant, crafted from recycled felt by Iskos-Berlin, also gets a new, more compact version. Several fresh versions of the Japanese-inspired hung linen Hashira lights, Norm Architects’ Eave Seamline series, and Colin King’s sculptural Interconnect candle holder debut as well.
Perhaps the biggest addition to the Audo line, though — no pun intended — is a two-seater version of Anderssen & Voll’s snug Brasilia armchair; with its exaggerated armrests and plush cushions, subtly evocative of both Scandinavian mid-century and Brazilian modern design, Brasilia has long been one of our favorite products, its wood-framed shape reminiscent of other icons of Scandinavian design, such as Artek’s Kiki sofa by Ilmari Tapiovaara. Consider it added to cart!
