Start With Art with Twyla, 2017

In 2017, one of the biggest highlights of our Offsite show was an installation developed in partnership with the affordable art purveyor Twyla, and conceived and creative directed by Sight Unseen. Given the directive to channel Twyla’s mission of encouraging people to “Start With Art” — ie, to build an interior design concept around artworks rather than leaving the art as an afterthought — we developed the idea of designing virtual reality rooms around some of the artworks in Twyla’s catalog. We brought in the VR artist Tom Hancocks to create seven rooms, each of which was inspired not only by a Twyla piece but by 2017’s biggest interior design trends, and then invited Offsite’s guests to experience each of them with the help of 3-D headsets.
