The day after the election of our current president in 2016, we woke up, as so many did, with a heavy heart and an urge to do something. And so we launched Design for Progress, a call to action for the design community to support progressive causes and vulnerable groups in need, through which we raised more than $75,000 for various non-profits. Then along came 2020, which brought us a global pandemic, a Black Lives Matter uprising, continued mistreatment of immigrants in the U.S., widespread attempts at voter suppression, and enough weather-related crises to redouble our commitment to the fight against climate change.

And so this week, while we take a much-needed summer break from publishing stories, we’re harnessing the power of our platform on Instagram for a summer 2020 Design for Progress fundraiser for five different organizations doing work in some of those areas, which will take the form of a series of five raffles. Now through August 31, each $10 donation you make buys you one “ticket” to win either a floor lamp donated by FLOS USA, a chair donated by Hay, a floor lamp donated by Lightology, a table lamp donated by ANDlight, or a two-night stay at the stunning mid-century Desert Wave house in Palm Springs. You can donate as much as you want, as many times as you want, for as many items as you want. The only limitations are that your delivery address must be in the U.S., and you must make the donation between now and August 31. You can find all the prizes and instructions either below, or posted on our Instagram each day this week.

“Brooklyn Defender Services provides free legal assistance to immigrants in and out of immigrant detention who cannot afford an attorney. The Todos Together Fund will provide immigrants who are facing extreme hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic with gift cards for groceries, household, hygiene, and toiletry needs as well as essential baby supplies. It will also help our immigrant community with their utility bills, remote learning needs, and medication costs. For those that are still in ICE jails, Todos Together money will contribute to their commissary accounts allowing them to purchase soap, toilet paper, phone calls to their families, and food. The majority of your support will go directly to the immigrants we serve. The rest will allow us to keep fighting so that all immigrants can have access to an attorney and due process in their fight to stay home.”
