A Bronze Mirror Side Table, A Stained Mahogany Dining Table: Our Favorite Finds From CB2’s New Black in Design Collection and More

There are two things happening at CB2 right now that we find exciting. The first is their ongoing collaboration with the estates of design legends like Paul McCobb and Gianfranco Frattini; that’s a McCobb task chair paired with a Frattini desk above, and can we talk about this striped outdoor sofa?! The other initiative is something that we mentioned in our Q&A with Evan Jerry of Studio Anansi last summer: the Black in Design collective, which brings together, under Jerry’s curation, works by 13 Black designers. This spring welcomes Niger’s Atelier Masomi, founded by Mariam Issoufou Kamara, and Nifemi Marcus-Bello’s nmbello Studio in Lagos, Nigeria, to the fold, along with a slate of new pieces from the Collective’s existing studios.

Pieces from Atelier Masomi include a shapely, substantial, blackened aluminum vase while Nmbello Studio offers the simple yet striking Kishi table composed of three planes of black or white marble. From French designers dach&zephir comes a rocking chair in curving, satiny black metal and Italian leather upholstery. Elan Byrd’s oak bed pairs curved wood railings with an upholstered ivory headboard. Kenyan-born, Australian-raised, Sandra Githinji’s Toron circular and oval dining tables, made of stained mahogany and palm, nod to the traditional architecture of the Sahel and Sudanian grassland regions of Africa. And Garth Roberts’ flashy, reflective side table of horizontal bronze panels opens for hidden storage.

More newness includes a variety of outdoor throw pillows practically urging you to get outside and lounge as temperatures warm. There’s a black and white brick pattern from New York’s Luam Melake; embroidered stripes of Atelier Masomi’s Utila design; and a graphic pattern from Studio Anansi that’s like an optical illusion: Is it waves? Is it an hourglass? The abundance of designs from Studio Anansi also includes a four-door acacia wood credenza, throw pillows in embroidered velvet, a pleated silk-linen fabric, a textured cotton-linen, or woven strips of leather, a deep leather chair and sofa, handwoven indoor-outdoor rugs, sculptural decorative objects, candleholders, hand-thrown ceramic vases, and even a beach towel — because let’s be honest, the arrival of spring means you can start getting ready for summer.

Rounding out the spring collection is the new-to-CB2 Aguirre Design, whose Luar lamp, in floor and table versions, features a slim stem wrapped in leather, a textural linen shade, and a base of unlacquered brass that will develop a rich patina over time. In keeping with that crisp, light palette, the smooth, unadorned look of Japanese designer Ryuichi Kozeki’s Mori porcelain dinnerware is refreshing in a hand-glazed matte white finish. Additionally, Form Portfolios reached into the archives of American mid-century modernist Bill Curry for the mushroom-style Pill table lamps, in a glossy deep green or polished brass finish.
