Enter to Win a Night at Ace Hotel Brooklyn, Whose Rooms Were Inspired by Corbu’s Cabanon

When we launched Sight Unseen’s first furniture collection at Ace Hotel Brooklyn earlier this month, it was a telling moment for us. For more than a decade, we’d held all of our events in Manhattan, fretting that — despite being Brooklyn residents ourselves — the borough was still too far afield to commandeer a proper crowd. And yet we didn’t hesitate for a moment when the Ace came calling and offered to host, both because it’s undeniable at this point that Brooklyn has come into its own, and because in the 9 or so months since it opened, the hotel has emerged as one of its most enjoyable hubs. Inside a 13-story concrete-and-glass building custom-designed by Roman and Williams, the hotel boasts a restaurant with a striking mosaic installation, a consistently-packed Brutalist bar, a lobby that plays host to exhibitions like this month’s furniture showcase from Black Folks in Design, and a light-filled interior courtyard that offers gentle respite from the bustle outside its doors. The property is a social lynchpin for downtown Brooklyn, even amongst locals like us.

And then there are the rooms. All 287 of them feature a handmade textile piece by a local artist — like rya-style ’70s shag compositions by Sarah Zapata, or miniature quilts by Thompson Street Project, a program curated by Niki Tsukamoto — as well as custom wood furniture and paneling that evokes Le Corbusier’s famed Le Cabanon retreat in Roquebrune, one of Roman and Williams’s top inspirations for the project. We got to spend few nights in one of them back in the fall, watching the sun rise and set over the skyline through its panoramic windows, and while it wasn’t exactly the south of France, it was definitely one of the best Brooklyn moments we’ve had in awhile. Now we’re offering you the chance to experience it for yourself, with a giveaway for one free night at Ace Hotel Brooklyn. To enter, first follow the property on Instagram, then fill out the entry form below by May 25. Good luck!
