When the global auction house Phillips was set to open their new Los Angeles gallery space in 2022, they invited Sight Unseen to furnish it, by way of curating a rotating selection of contemporary California-based designers that exemplified the state’s pioneering design spirit. We borrowed and commissioned pieces from 10 designers, arranging them into vignettes alongside the auction house’s consigned works of 20th century and contemporary art, design, jewelry, and watches. The auction house hosted an event celebrating the collaboration, and since then have continued showcasing the works in their West Coast flagship, with a planned refresh scheduled soon.
