In a New Show, a 3D Artist Tries His Hand At Something New — Making Furniture

This week, in a bit of a twist, 3D artist Andrés Reisinger brought one of his metaphysical spaces to life: For one of Chamber Projects' bi-monthly Quick Tiny Shows, curated by Juan García Mosqueda and held in the courtyard of RIES's studio, Reisinger created three design objects — a lamp, a curtain, and a snakelike silver seating unit meant for group lounging, John Chamberlain-style.

Collective, The Future Perfect, Chamber, and More: The Best of NYCxDesign, So Far

Remember when New York Design Week was, well, a week? This year, the festival known as NYCxDesign stretches all the way from May 3 through May 24, making this a marathon for those involved, as we are, in both design and art. The best thing about the new, elongated schedule, though, is that we actually got to see much of the good stuff, launching as it did last week before our own Sight Unseen OFFSITE fair kicks into high gear. Here are two dozen favorites from New York design month — so far.

Colored Sand, Kool-Aid, and the Potential of Materials

Group exhibitions, which ask a cohort of designers to all respond to the same brief, are far too rare in the American design scene, which often favors solo presentations. That's perhaps why Chamber Gallery's exhibition model, in which an outside curator puts together a few different installments over the course of a year, feels so refreshing. Now on view at Chamber is This Is Today, Matylda Krzykowski's second installment built around the theme of collage.
