Is Menorca the Next Puglia? Probably, Thanks to This Hotel Designed By Dorothee Meilichzon

When we first saw photos of the Experimental Menorca, the latest hotel to be outfitted by one of our very favorite interior designers, Paris-based Dorothee Meilichzon, part of us wanted to keep it to ourselves — at least until we got a chance to personally visit it. Especially since its resume is so hip it's almost ridiculous: 43-room agriturismo on an under-developed and overlooked island, Meilichzon's signature style, au courant branding, textiles and ceramics by LRNCE, food sourced from the hotel's garden, pottery and painting classes on offer, owned by a boutique hospitality agency... We could keep going.

The first time we saw photos of Sicilian-born, London-based designer Oscar Piccolo's home, featured on The Modern House, we had to chuckle — it's not every day you find a guy whose name means "small" in his native Italian living in a cozy one-room flat in London. But the second time we saw it featured, on Architectural Digest's Clever site last week, where our very own writer Zoe Sessums described how Piccolo has thoughtfully transformed the space over the past three years, we began to notice all the ways in which his home suits him perfectly in more than just name.

Casa Perfect Opens in New York, And It’s Even Better Than the Instagrams

Casa Perfect — the shoppable interior concept from The Future Perfect — finally opened in New York City this weekend after the success of previous Los Angeles iterations, and it was predictably awesome: Copacabana-like tropical lights by Chris Wolston, ethereal glass pieces by John Hogan, lush velvets by Lazzarini & Pickering, oil-finished tables by Floris Wubben, and a spectacular Chipperfield-designed wood staircase that flies up the home's central void, all the way from the subterranean kitchen to the roof.

We Thought We Were Over Terrazzo Until We Saw This Epic Apartment in Lithuania

Why do some trends fizz out, while some stick around and — in many cases — keep coming back stronger year after year? Take terrazzo: We've been hawking that gorgeous, endlessly reconfigurable aggregate since at least 2013, but the design world's adoration of it has hardly waned in the six years since. Still, when you find an application that stops you in your tracks, it’s worth noting, which we happily did this week with an apartment in Lithuania by DO Architects.

At Gray Matters’s New Bower-Designed Showroom, the Shop Matches the Shoes

Since founding her cult-favorite shoe line Gray Matters in 2015, designer Silvia Avanzi has made sculptural heels her signature — suede-covered cubes, Plexiglas diamonds, hand-painted stones, and lacquered eggs have all offered support for her sandals, pumps, boots, and slingbacks. So it makes sense that when Avanzi went looking for a studio to design her new Brooklyn showroom, she chose Bower, a firm that knows a thing or two about unexpected sculptural details.

Is This New, Gleaming Bookstore in Hangzhou the Future of Books?

We marvel at pretty much every bookstore brave enough to open in today's retail landscape, but that goes double for the new Harbook shop in Hangzhou, designed by the Shanghai studio of Alberto Caiola. A sprawling 6,500 square-foot playground filled with monumental custom furnishings and rows of thick steel archways, it's almost touching in how it seems to channel the glory days of the early 2000s, when ambitious "concept stores" still flourished and Amazon hadn't yet ruined books for everyone else.
