Sight Unseen at Collectible, 2018

In March, Sight Unseen was invited to host a booth at the brand-new Collectible design fair in Brussels, where we showcased new lighting by Chen Chen and Kai Williams and new wall works by Mimi Jung, alongside exhibitors like Maniera Gallery, Valerie Traan, and more than a dozen independent design studios.

Founded by a team that has run art fairs in the past — and aimed primarily at the legions of art collectors based in Belgium and nearby countries — Collectible puts an emphasis not only on transactions but also “on creativity,” the founders state. We joined the conversation with two of the most creative studios we know: Los Angeles–based artist Mimi Jung, who explored tension and color saturation in her latest woven wall works, and New York design duo Chen Chen & Kai Williams, who debuted a series of lamps called Brittle Stars, in which zinc is poured over glass spheres to generate clusters of ‘stained glass’ that diffuse light.
