Get Ready To Fall In Love With Caudex Studio, Brooklyn’s Haute Couturier Of Ceramics

Caudex Studio is something of a secret, if anything with a website and an Instagram account could be considered as such these days. Launched late last year by fledgling ceramicist Éloïse Larochelle (who cut her teeth in fashion design in Givenchy's atelier and—in case those cross-disciplinary bonafides don't suffice—had the brand's logo designed by a friend at M/M Paris), Caudex planters are one-of-a-kind, wheel-thrown and made in two pieces—a drainage-friendly top set on a glaze-lined base that collects water, "for optimal plant health."

For our ongoing curatorial takeover of The A/D/O Shop in Brooklyn, we'll be doing periodic showcases of a single studio's work, in addition to all of the other amazing offerings you can buy on site. Our first showcase, which launches tomorrow, puts the spotlight on Brooklyn-based trio Pieces Home. Pieces launched a sports-themed collection at this year's ICFF, and at A/D/O, they'll be offering select furniture and rugs from that line as well as a brand-new series of geometric planters.

The Principals’ Epic, Prismatic Plant Installation at Saturdays NYC

In the backyard of the Soho surf shop Saturdays NYC, Brooklyn design studio The Principals are exploring the border between the physical and sacred worlds. For an installation called Golden Arch, they’ve installed an 8-foot-tall triangular wave structure made from the studio’s modular, stackable Prism Planters. Spanning the garden from north to south, it symbolizes the emergence of the sun, moon, and stars from what Australian aboriginal cultures call “dreamtime” — the period during which the universe was created — into the physical world.

These New Copper Vessels Will Make Your Houseplants Unkillable

Ask anyone what kind of houseplant you ought to get if you're cursed with a black thumb, and you're nearly always regaled with tales of the wonderful, unkillable qualities of cacti and succulents. But frankly, we've had bad luck with more than a few of that breed. Été Studios, a new product-design studio based in Seoul, Korea, is here to help. Their first line of products consists of a series of vases and pots specially designed to make growing cacti and succulents easier. Larger vessels are made from copper, a material known for its antimicrobial properties that inhibit bacterial growth, and smaller, hydroponic vases are made from two parts.
