Pettersen & Hein’s New Exhibition Finds Beauty in Fallow Times

Pettersen & Hein’s new exhibition at the Copenhagen floral design shop Tableau is called Superbloom, which might seem like an apt name for a show in a flower shop. But for the Danish-Norwegian duo, the term “superbloom” takes on greater meaning considering the events of the past year. “A superbloom is a rare desert botanical phenomenon in which an unusually high proportion of wildflowers whose seeds have lain dormant in desert soil germinate and blossom at roughly the same time,” the designers explain. “The year 2020 has handed us all a great deal of troubles — why not try to believe great things will be generated and grow and from this?” The new collection, which is available for sale on Tableau’s webshop even if you’re not in Copenhagen, includes a selection of 32 vessels, made from craggy ceramic and concrete and finished with a glaze that recalls a colorful carpets of flowers.
