Mociun’s New Brooklyn Flagship is a Sophisticated, Instagram-Friendly Oasis

Caitlin Mociun opened her universally-beloved home-goods store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn more than half a decade ago. But like the neighborhood she calls home, Mociun has done a lot of growing up in that time. Late last year, that growing up culminated in the opening of a second Mociun flagship, this one devoted primarily to her fine-jewelry line — i.e. the source of much Instagram-induced hyperventilation among certain women we know.

An online auction launched this week by Sothebys features only 23 pieces, from a Colorado gallery called Maker + Place, but it represents something bigger — the start of a new series of no-buyer's-reserve, online-only design sales that the art-auction giant plans to repeat regularly with different curators and assortments. 16 Statement Sofas to Consider Blowing Your Budget On

When it comes to decorating, most people tend to follow the same, tried-and-true, low-risk method: Buy a nice but ultimately unremarkable sofa and bring personality into the room via colorful or patterned throw pillows, statement-y rugs, a killer gallery wall, or dramatic lighting. But today, we're wondering if it might be worth it to consider throwing away that number one rule of decorating and making the sofa the focal point of your whole room.

A New Nashville Concept Shop With Rotating Curatorial Themes

If you walked into the new Wilder Etudes store in Nashville, you might not notice anything out of the ordinary; it has its own vibe, of course, but otherwise appears no different than the kind of small, directional boutique you might find in Brooklyn or L.A. But everything stocked at Wilder Etudes adheres to a theme that will change every three months, and the connections aren't always obvious.

The Candy-Colored Ceramics Collection We’re Coveting

The new spring collection from Felt + Fat — the Philadelphia-based ceramics studio founded by RISD architecture grad Wynn Bauer and former Tyler School of Art glass major Nate Mell — looks like its cups, plates and bowls were colored with the powder of chalky-sweet candy hearts. Featuring matte pale pinks and swirls of sage, plus a bright and poppy blue and yellow, the tableware is as suitable for a shelf display as it is for a bustling dinner party — after all, the porcelain clay pieces can be found in restaurants all around the Philly scene.

This Collection Is Turning Design’s Biggest Trends Into Stuff You Can Actually Afford

We pride ourselves here on generally being able to spot or define trends as they're taking shape, but it's sometimes just as interesting to track what happens to those trends when they begin to be picked up by the masses. That's why retailers like West Elm have always been so fascinating to us: They're essentially the fulcrum, the point at which trends swing from an insider-y secret to something anyone might adopt into their living rooms. Their latest collection might be our favorite example of this yet.
