This Parisian Designer is Giving Volcanic Rock a Feminine Touch

Why haven’t we heard of the young French designer Charlotte Juillard until now? The former Fabrica resident was named a rising star at Maison & Objet back in 2016, but we were only introduced to the incredible lava rock collection she created in the last few weeks (the perils of not hop-scotching the design fair circuit, we suppose). Regardless, her work makes for an excellent Friday eye candy: For her Lavastone collection, the Parisian designer collaborated with the centuries-old stone company Ranieri Pietra Lavica, whose workshops are located at the foot of Mount Vesuvio. The collection includes a daybed, a side table, and mirror with tinted glass; Juillard says she was interested in combining the rough, raw quality of volcanic rock with a more feminine sensibility. Now a tile collection is in the works as are a series of kitchen items. Here’s hoping we see more of Juillard in the coming months!
