Win a $2,000 Huggy Chair from Sarah Ellison, Whose Furniture Is Now Available in the US
When the Australian designer Sarah Ellison released her Huggy chair two years ago, it blew up — Athena Calderone installed one in her guest room in the Hamptons, and everyone from Jake Arnold to Jenna Lyons to Sarah Sherman Samuel deployed it in their projects. “The human connection to it can’t be underestimated,” Ellison says of the chair, whose cylindrical backrest was designed to feel like a warm embrace. “People want to connect with it, touch it, feel it. And everyone needs a hug.” Wrapped in cushy shearling or velvet, the Huggy also had the advantage of a simple geometric form that stood out, yet seemed to work in all sorts of interiors. There was only one problem: If you weren’t a big-name designer with a bottomless budget, it just wasn’t that easy to get one, as is the case with most amazing furniture from Australia. But that all changed this winter, when Ellison partnered with Design Within Reach to make a significant portion of her catalog readily available in the US.
Now, you can shop not only the Huggy in the US, but also Ellison’s plump Muse sofa, her rattan-wrapped tables, her striped room divider, and even our favorite large piece of hers, the insanely covetable Yoko bed, whose feet are giant wooden balls. And even better, you can potentially win a Huggy chair for yourself by entering our giveaway below, between now and March 24.
One lucky reader in the US will get to choose from the four Huggy upholstery options below — white shearling, or three colors of velvet — and then just like that, the $2,295 chair that’s starred in so many high-end interiors will show up on their doorstep, no trans-Pacific headaches required. Scroll down to get better acquainted with the prize, plus other works by Ellison that are now available through DWR. And good luck!
