Add Color to Your Space With Our New Collection of Gallery-Level — Yet Accessible — Art

In our forthcoming book, How to Live With Objects, we talk a lot about how easy and rewarding it is to build a collection of great objects that add texture and personality to your interior — all you have to do is hit up local antique malls or garage sales, create a few key eBay search alerts, and be brave enough to DM your favorite independent makers. What’s always been much harder, though, is building a collection of great art. It’s almost impossible to score truly good stuff at flea markets, and for 90% of us, buying from a gallery is either too intimidating or totally out of the question, available only to VIPs with deep pockets. That’s why we were so excited to discover the David Zwirner–backed online art marketplace Platform last November, which lets anyone purchase high-end works by respected artists for relatively accessible prices (it’s still art), and with just the click of a button. A year later, we’ve partnered with the site to create our own collection of Sight Unseen–approved artworks that will instantly make your space more colorful and more visually interesting — most of which are under $5k.

For the collection, we chose artworks that were bright, beautiful, and represented two of our favorite genres, still life and abstraction (we also love great geometries and a mid-century influence). The artists represented include painters from Tampa, Florida (Ezra Johnson), Brooklyn (Matt Phillips), Oceanside, California (Corey Ruecker), and Dallas (Marcelyn McNeil). And the reason the pieces look so incredible in the photos below is that Jonathan Hökklo shot them in Jill’s own living room in New York, alongside objects by the likes of Morgan Peck, Lisa Reiser, Trame, and Foscarini — and, of course, our book! If you’ve got a white wall to fill and love color as much as we do, shop the collection via the link below, and don’t forget to send us a photo of your new painting hanging next to some of your favorite objects.
