As trend scouts, avid social media consumers, and Google Image Search addicts, we often happen across works, names, and images that cause our internal YES bells to go off. Starting today, we've decided to give them the airtime they deserve in our new Current Obsession column, the first of which is devoted to Salvatore Fiume — the late Italian artist whose lumpy, curvaceous sculptures seem to somehow be having a resurgence in the work of designers like Sigve Knutson, Thomas Barger, and Carl Emil Jacobsen.

These Classical-Meets-Contemporary Ceramics Are a Major Discovery

It's not every day that we make a discovery on the level of Nicolette Johnson, when some random Instagram rabbit hole leads us to a trove so vast we can hardly believe no one had tipped us off to it sooner. But that's exactly what happened last month, when we stumbled onto an image of Johnson's vases and found ourselves practically hyperventilating — not just over the works themselves, but the fact that the young Brisbane-based talent only started working with ceramics at all less than two years ago.

8 Amazing Finds From the Parisian Design Dealers Known as Kolkhoze

This month we discovered the Parisian entity Kolkhoze, whose program we must confess we don't entirely understand — founders Thibaut Van den bergh and Thomas Erber seem to be interfacing not just between designers and clients, but between other galleries and clients, as well, offering both existing editions and custom commissions. Whatever they're doing over there, they're doing it well — we did a deep-dive into their site this week and discovered not only amazing works we'd never seen before, but designers we'd never even heard of.

Studiopepe Just Made Us Fall in Love With Italian Design All Over Again

As much as Italian design sometimes feels like an oppressive shadow from under which every other design movement will eternally struggle to emerge, we can't deny that it's also an eternal wellspring of inspiration — as a budding adult we loved its plastics, in our mid- to late-20s it was Memphis, and these days we find ourselves coveting pretty much everything Cini Boeri ever made. Last week we happened across a perfect reminder of this, in the form of a 2016 AD Germany shoot styled by Studiopepe and celebrating the best of Italian design, both then and now.

If you walked into the new Wilder Etudes store in Nashville, you might not notice anything out of the ordinary; it has its own vibe, of course, but otherwise appears no different than the kind of small, directional boutique you might find in Brooklyn or L.A.
