One of the Best Galleries in Mexico City is Inside a Modernist Apartment

A hybrid cultural venue and design gallery intimately nestled in a modernist apartment building in the Roma Norte neighborhood of Mexico City, Studio IMA — which stands for “in my apartment” and nods to the Japanese word for “the present” — follows the shoppable interior model of The Apartment by the Line or Casa Perfect. But while those locations merely gesture towards an inhabited domestic space, Studio IMA founder Bettina Kiehnle Garza lives right alongside the art and objects on display day and night.

Three Designers Turned Their Hotel Rooms Into Studios for A Weekend Residency — Here are the Results

With the help of the design-forward travel app HotelTonight — which allows designers to choose from a curated selection of hotels that might drive creative inspiration — we issued a challenge to three designers: Spend a weekend in a city you've never been to, bringing with you only the tools you can fit into a carry-on, and use your hotel room as a mobile studio in which to create a design object inspired by your travels.

Is Menorca the Next Puglia? Probably, Thanks to This Hotel Designed By Dorothee Meilichzon

When we first saw photos of the Experimental Menorca, the latest hotel to be outfitted by one of our very favorite interior designers, Paris-based Dorothee Meilichzon, part of us wanted to keep it to ourselves — at least until we got a chance to personally visit it. Especially since its resume is so hip it's almost ridiculous: 43-room agriturismo on an under-developed and overlooked island, Meilichzon's signature style, au courant branding, textiles and ceramics by LRNCE, food sourced from the hotel's garden, pottery and painting classes on offer, owned by a boutique hospitality agency... We could keep going.

An Architecture Photographer on Ricardo Bofill’s Social-Housing Masterpiece, Walden 7

Ricardo Bofill's Walden 7 is grouped around five courtyards and encircled by curved, terracotta balconies that give the building the appearance of having barnacles. Most of the apartments face both out towards the sea and into one of the courtyards; at many levels, a system of bridges and walkways allow residents an array of vertiginous vistas. We'd seen photos of the place, of course, but when we received these images — taken by trend consultant and travel blogger Pauline Chardin — we had to share.

When the French winemaker Philippe Austruy purchased the Quinta da Corte vineyard in 2012, the 200-year-old property was in a state of utter neglect and disrepair. But by this past July, when I drove two hours from Porto to reach its perch in the hills of Portugal's Douro Valley, it had been completely transformed — turned into a luxe country inn by the buzzy French architect Pierre Yovanovich.
