Memphis Meets Secession in L.A.’s Coolest New Bar Interior

When the New York interiors firm Home Studios presented its first collection of lighting and furniture at our OFFSITE show earlier this year, the pieces were a culmination of an unusually prolific track record of custom design and fabrication. Having seen the firm's newest project, the West Hollywood bar Bibo Ergo Sum, in which Home designed every single element but the chairs, we can only imagine how ridiculously good their second collection is going to be.

Curious “Foam” Forms Made of Ceramic and Metal, Now on View at Aram Gallery

Though they may look more like sea sponges, the collaborative works of Marina Dragomirova and Iain Howlett — aka Studio Furthermore — are in fact made from cast ceramic and aluminum alloy, using a process known as "lost foam casting." On view at The Aram Gallery in London through January 20, Studio Furthermore's latest collection of mirrors, pots, lighting, and tables were inspired by Icelandic rocks and mineral ores, lava rocks, and magma debris.

Think Big! Our First LA Pop-up, at Space 15 Twenty

If you've been following our Instagram, you know that we've been spending an awful lot of time in Los Angeles lately. Last Thursday, we finally revealed why (aside from an obvious need to escape New York's subzero temps and un-meltable snowdrifts). Our latest pop-up — and our first-ever venture in LA — opened last Thursday at Space 15 Twenty, the Los Angeles Urban Outfitters concept shop and sister store to Brooklyn's Space Ninety 8, where we hosted a similar event last fall. Called Think Big!, the pop-up is inspired by a 1980s-era Soho store of the same name, which featured scaled-up versions of everyday objects.

Fair Report

Our Favorite Finds from the 2017 Salon Art + Design

We've never been ones who needed an excuse to dress up, so last Thursday we happily headed uptown to the Park Avenue Armory for The Salon Art + Design, generally considered to be New York's fanciest design fair. We've only recently begun attending the Salon in part because the fair has only recently reached a tipping point, where the quality and number of boundary-pushing contemporary pieces matches the number of vintage ones on display — all of which, of course, reflects a more general trend in the collectible design world.
