A Dutch Duo Making “Furniture for Your Wall”

Three years ago, Korean graphic designer Dongyoung Lee and Dutch artist Michiel Hilbrink moved to a "woon/werkatelier," a living and working studio for artists in Amsterdam — not originally built to live and work in — and became greatly inspired by their undefined situation. Their new collaboration, Things of Morel, developed at the intersection of interior decoration, object design and sculpture, and the latest collection, called Sun Fluid, stems from their own experiments with raw materials.

8 Amazing Finds From the Parisian Design Dealers Known as Kolkhoze

This month we discovered the Parisian entity Kolkhoze, whose program we must confess we don't entirely understand — founders Thibaut Van den bergh and Thomas Erber seem to be interfacing not just between designers and clients, but between other galleries and clients, as well, offering both existing editions and custom commissions. Whatever they're doing over there, they're doing it well — we did a deep-dive into their site this week and discovered not only amazing works we'd never seen before, but designers we'd never even heard of.

Called Assembly, the show will represent the United States as the guest country at the Old Truman Brewery from September 21-24, with new and existing work by Bower, Chen Chen & Kai Williams, Christopher Stuart, DAMM, Earnest Studio, Eric Trine, Iacoli & McAllister, John Hogan, Ladies & Gentlemen, Pat Kim, Steven Haulenbeek, Studio Proba, and Slash Objects.

Dusen Dusen Home

The past few years have proven that — every once in a while — a fashion label can make a successful, mostly non-embarrassing crossover into furniture and housewares. Margiela, Hermès, and Rick Owens all come to mind, but who better than a textile designer to make the leap? At last week's Capsule show, Ellen Van Dusen of the Brooklyn-based clothing brand Dusen Dusen launched a brand new line of soft goods for the home that feature her signature geometric patterns — sheets, blankets, rugs, towels, pillows, and a pouf — and the extension feels totally natural, like it was meant to be. Today she's giving Sight Unseen a first peek at the line's lookbook photos, which were shot by SU contributor Brian Ferry and feature cameos by both SNL comedian Aidy Bryant and Van Dusen's official canine mascot, Snips.

Studiopepe Just Made Us Fall in Love With Italian Design All Over Again

As much as Italian design sometimes feels like an oppressive shadow from under which every other design movement will eternally struggle to emerge, we can't deny that it's also an eternal wellspring of inspiration — as a budding adult we loved its plastics, in our mid- to late-20s it was Memphis, and these days we find ourselves coveting pretty much everything Cini Boeri ever made. Gradients and Bands of Gold: Jonny Niesche’s Mesmerizing New Paintings

For the Sydney-based, Australian-born artist Jonny Niesche, one of the more transformative moments of his career occurred while studying abroad at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. During a crit, a mentor likened Niesche's work to a Tumblr, meaning that he hadn’t yet established enough parameters or guidelines for his practice — or, in other words, the things that might make his work stand out as his. “As long as you think about the principles of your work, then it can be your work no matter what material or form it comes in,” he was told.
