Discoveries

South Korean designer Jihye Kang’s Purity series presents the findings of material research into acrylic, combining the material with stainless steel to create pieces that refract light and change along with the viewer’s perspective.

Loving the super-gorg interior of Cookers Gourmet Cafe in Moscow, by Veter Design, which somehow melds millennial pink ductwork, navy and mint green furnishings, a terrazzo-esque floor and copper accents without overwhelming.

Copenhagen-based Friends & Founders’ new introductions from the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair are streamlined yet emotive, perfect for getting cozy in style.

LA interior designer Sally Breer recently designed a 4-suite additions to Los Feliz’s Hotel Covell, including an envy-inducing (but not at all cheesy) mirrored bed situation and the introduction of some seriously cool new furnishings.

Objects Of Common Interest presented their layer stools and parallel bench at Gallery Bensimon in Paris late last year; in case you missed it, we found out the pieces just so happen to still be on view.

Renée Gouin, a painter whose work is inspired at turns by Japanese woodblock prints and Morandi, has been blowing up our feed lately. Her riffs on fashion illustration focus on form and color and will have you compulsively double tapping.

Shopping

Ceramicist Ben Medansky teamed up unexpectedly with New York-based KOIO to debut a blue-soled sneaker, complete with ceramic accents he’s dubbed “shoelery.” Never thought I’d be wearing my sugar bowl as footwear, but there’s a first time for everything.

Italian brand Numa’s limited edition wares are up on Wallpaper* Store now; the brand featured collaborations with design greats like Ettore Sottsass, Giuseppe Rivadossi and Mario Botta.

Exhibitions

Markus Amm’s gesso board paintings—created by pouring extremely thin layers of paint onto a prepared surface over long periods of time—“reveal radiant compositions that develop and deepen before the viewer’s gaze.” They’re on view at David Kordansky gallery until March 24.

Poltronova will be showing Archizoom’s Mies Chair and Ettore Sottsass’s Ultrafragola mirror in “Italiana. Italy Through the Lens of Fashion, 1971-2001,” on view from February 22 through May 6 at Milan’s Palazzo Reale. The event was conceived and curated by the critic Maria Luisa Frisa and W Magazine editor Stefano Tonchi and will focus on the three decades worth of work that “put Italy on the map of international culture.”

Dezeen took a tour of one seriously colorful apartment in Barcelona’s historic El Born neighbourhood, which just so happens to prominently feature the quirky face sculptures Monica spotted last week.

Cultured magazine somehow got Solange and the artist Toyin Ojih Odutola (whose exhibition at the Whitney we covered late last year) to sit down together — at the Noguchi Museum no less —to chat about “sound, art, and architecture.” We’re all ears.
