If you've ever looked closely at coverage of the annual Design Parade festival in France, we're guessing that like us, your reaction was probably a mixture of bafflement and awe. How do they manage to get so many new objects and new ideas in one (tiny) place, not to mention so many balls-to-the-wall interiors with what appear to be no-expense-spared, move-in-tomorrow production values? This Curator Turned Her 12th-Century Castle Into a Design Gallery

After Alice Stori Lichtenstein moved into her family's 12th-century castle, Schloss Hollenegg, she turned her sprawling, grandiose home (or a small sliver of it, anyway) into a residency program and exhibition space. Earlier this month, she opened the show Morphosis, focusing on "the manner in which an organism or any of its parts changes form or undergoes development," and featuring objects by Lex Pott, Stephanie Hornig, Sabine Marcelis, Germans Ermics, Marcin Rusak, and more. Meet The In-Demand Interior Designer Redefining Parisian Chic

Dorothée Meilichzon had worked in Paris for just five years before she founded her eponymous design studio in 2009 at the age of 27. Since then, she’s become one of the most in-demand interior designers in the French capital — as well as 2015’s designer of the year at Maison & Objet — despite maintaining a full-time staff of only three. Her work focuses on hotels, restaurants, and bars — the “fun places,” as she calls them, done in a style that is decidedly of-the-moment but grounded in color and texture and marked by an exquisite attention to detail and a love for metals, wood, and stone.

David des Moutis, Furniture Designer

Like many of his peers, 29-year-old Parisian David des Moutis is obsessed with finding new possibilities for traditional handicrafts, and if he could, he'd probably spend all of his time geeking out in workshops watching glass being blown, stone being carved, or metal being spun. One of his pieces — an eyeball-shaped bentwood stool he showed at IMM Cologne in 2010 — even came about after he discovered an old manual wood press in the back of a local shop that its own employees didn't even know how to operate. One could say he's the ultimate tinkerer; even when he's not the one fabricating his own designs, he can't help but leap in and try to learn the ropes. Check out some of the results here.
